It’s unbelievable that Dem. Rep John Conyers is still in Congress. If any Republican in Congress was accused of what Conyers is accused of, they would be forced to resign and reporters would be doing everything to find every possible accuser.
But when it comes to Democrats the reality is different.
Nancy Pelosi defended Conyers and even called him an icon until she was forced to take the accusers seriously.
A former spokesperson for Rep. John Conyers, Tuesday said it wasn’t a “big deal” for workers to find Conyers wearing only underwear in his Washington office.
“He changes clothes in his office. Most of us have walked in on him changing his clothes … and have seen him in his underwear,” Bob Weiner stated for congressional reporters outside Conyers’ base in the Rayburn House Office Building. “Big deal!”
One of the women who accused Conyers of sexual misconduct, Melanie Sloan, said that one of the times when she was called to Conyers’ office while she was the House Judiciary Committee’s minority counsel from 1995 to 1998.
Conyers had settled a complaint in 2015 from a woman who claims she was fired from his Washington staff because she refused to have sexual relations with him. Conyers’ office paid her over 27,000 to keep her quiet under a confidentiality agreement.
BuzzFeed even published testimonies from workers who say they saw Conyers touching women inappropriately, rubbing their backs and legs, or asking for sexual favors. One former worker said it was her job “to keep a list of women that I assumed he was having affairs with and call them at his request and, if necessary, have them flown in using Congressional resources.”
Somehow Conyers has managed to stay in Congress even after these shocking claims.
That is, until now.
It seems that he finally acknowledged his time is up.
As reported Conyers will announce his retirement in January
The hilarious part of this is that Conyers plans to wait until after the Alabama election to make his announcement. But if he makes his retirement plans public before the election, Dems might get a little support from Alabama voters for trying to clear Congress of the bad guys. And since the race is so tight, who knows how that might affect Moore’s support. As it is, no dice.
Sources say Conyers will not running up for re-election because of the scandal that only grows each day. But still, he is not resigning.
